On Friday, October 24, The Wyndcroft School was alive with autumn excitement as students, families, and teachers came together for a day of seasonal celebration. The event-filled day included the beloved Batwing Ball for both Lower and Upper School students, followed by Wyndcroft’s first-ever Tinker Treat and Trunk-or-Treat—a creative new tradition blending STEM, imagination, and community fun.

The day began with festive classroom activities and the Lower School Batwing Ball, where students danced, laughed, and celebrated in the Auditorium and Gymnasium. Afterward, the celebration continued outdoors for something brand new: Tinker Treat.

In STEM class, Upper School students had been learning about the fundamentals of simple machines—gears, pulleys, levers, and inclined planes—and how these mechanisms power everyday inventions. Their challenge was to put that knowledge into action by designing and building hands-free candy-dispensing contraptions.

What resulted were clever and creative machines that dropped, slid, or launched candy in surprising ways—all crafted from recycled materials and powered by imagination.

“I’m so proud of the creativity and problem-solving our students showed throughout this project,” said STEM Specialist Shannon Stone. “They truly embraced the design thinking process and turned recycled materials into imaginative, hands-free candy delivery machines. I was so impressed by their creativity, teamwork, and the excitement they brought to every step—it was amazing to see them in action!”

Wyndcroft’s Chief Academic Officer, Daniel Edleman, added:

“These projects are the perfect example of how learning at Wyndcroft extends beyond the classroom. Our students are innovators and collaborators. They take what they’ve learned and use it to create joy for others—that’s what a Wyndcroft education is all about.”

During our Tinker Treat event, families were also able mix and mingle at Trunk-or-Treat, where creatively decorated cars offered festive treats, games, and surprises. From a Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles themed trunk that handed out pizza to the Mystery Gang handing out Scooby Snacks, the afternoon captured the magic of fall and the spirit of community that defines Wyndcroft.

To round out the day, Upper School students joined in the fun at their own Batwing Ball, a costumed Upper School dance!

More than just a day of fun, Wyndcroft’s fall festivities highlighted how students put curiosity into action—and how learning, creativity, and belonging thrive together at The Wyndcroft School.
